About The CLA
The Canasta League of America was founded to create a central place for Canasta players to come together using an updated rule book and strategies. The Founders saw a rapid resurgence of the game in both New York and Southern Florida. Contemporary Canasta differs greatly from the game that was played in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The rules have changed and it is a different game than it was even ten years ago. Its popularity can be seen as Bridge Clubs across the world are now starting to offer Canasta Memberships. Duplicate Bridge players are even supplementing their card playing time with Canasta games!
Everyone seems to love Canasta! All ages, from young adults to retired people play Canasta! Men, women and couples play Canasta!
Now all Canasta players have a place to call home.

In addition, the Founders saw a need to re-certify instructors with the new rules and have created a certification program via Canasta University to make sure that when you look for a CLA™ Instructor, they will all teach the same set of rules in a fun environment. Now Canasta Instructors also have a place to call home. If you are interested in becoming an Accredited CLA™ Instructor, please click here for additional information.

About the CLA Standard Rules
The CLA with guidance from it's advisory board has developed the updated "Standard Rules & Instruction for Playing Modern Canasta" which governs all CLA sanctioned events, tournaments and instruction. While these rules may vary slightly from how you played the game, there was a need for standardizing Canasta and this book is the result of our advisory boards' work. The Standards and Rules Book is complimentary with your CLA Membership here. Also available, Advanced & Strategic Play.
